ABOUT ME
I am an independent Approved Driving Instructor based in and around Newmarket. I have been running Excelerate Driving Tuition since the beginning of 2020 and before that, I was a teacher for twenty years. I teach in a manual car (currently a Kia Rio) and offer lessons for pupils in and around Newmarket who wish to use either Bury St Edmunds or Cambridge as their test centre. My car is comfy, modern and fitted with dual controls for safety as well as L plates and a top box so that other road users will be aware that you are learning. My working hours are generally Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm but lessons can be arranged outside of these times if available. I am able to help learners with different needs:
● Younger or older
● Nervous or have anxiety
● Refresher lessons
● Motorway lessons

WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR FIRST LESSON
You only need to bring your provisional driving licence to your first lesson. Before I can allow you to start driving, by law, I will need to carry out an eyesight check to see that you can read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres.
On your first lesson, we'll drive to somewhere quiet, where we can practice and get you started. Some people have had driving experience before and some haven't - and that's ok! If you haven't driven before, we'll go through the basics of driving a car. This will include looking at the 'Cockpit Drill' and what controls there are, which pedals are which, what they do and how to use them. Once you've understood what happens and why, we'll get moving! On your first lesson, you will be driving if you feel comfortable doing so. If you would prefer not to drive on your first lesson, that's ok too! We can take it slowly at a pace to suit you.
If you have driven before, I will ask a few questions to establish your current level of driving, and we'll go for a drive so that you can get used to driving the car. We can then work on developing any areas which you feel you need to practice, and we'll perfect any areas that you've already got the hang of. At the end of each lesson we will review how the lesson went and agree on a goal to set for the next lesson. You will also have a pupil logbook to record and reflect on your progress.
On our lessons following your first, we will aim to introduce different subjects such as junctions, roundabouts, pedestrian crossings, dual carriageways, parking, and so on. How quickly we introduce these things will depend on your progress - and it's important to note that there is no minimum or maximum amount of hours you must have - everyone is different and learns at a different pace.
Practising for your theory test alongside your practical lessons will enable you to put your theory knowledge into practise, and put your practical knowledge into your theory.
Lessons will be fun and centred around your needs.. I will endeavour to get you through your driving test as quickly and as safely as possible. My aim is to get your driving to a standard which is INDEPENDENT, SAFE and RESPONSIBLE.
